A friend of mine I worked with at a previous company has been working with outset doing phone tech support; he says he's never been happier or less stressed, said the pay is great too. He's gotten me an interview...I'm debating whether to take the job with them or not. It will depend mostly on pay but in an initial interview they said at least matching what I currently make wouldn't be an issue (actually I asked for a bit more than I currently make). More money, plus not having to drive an hour and a half one way to work then an hour and a half back home, hell that's $300 a month in gas...but some have said they had to travel a lot (my friend is most likely a level above what I'd come in as) so I'll have to ask if I'll be required to travel or not, if I do that might be a deal breaker; last three jobs I've had to drive for hours, current one my clinics are 15 min apart but the drive in and home is getting old, I wanted to stop traveling so much.
The other issue is I really like my co-workers and boss and I just don't feel right about leaving my current job high and dry, we're short staffed and it would really screw them over and I'd hate to be like "well two weeks" or even a month or two notice...granted I have to think about my financial future, but if I give them a two week notice there's literally no one else who can work on dialysis equipment there right now. Might be a bit of bridge burning even if I make a decent amount more and don't have to travel. I'm hesitant to work for a company I don't know anything about regarding their future :\ I haven't heard their salary offer yet, but what good is that if they go belly up in 5 years. I also thought about trying to do both jobs, my friend said he fields 3 maybe 4 calls a day and I probably could do that but they require a two week training so that wouldn't be doable, I can't just take off two weeks and come back so looks like I'll HAVE to choose between.
Honestly, if the pay is significantly higher that's going to make me really want to take it, and if I don't have to travel that pretty much seals the deal...however...that issue of "will this job last" is still in my head. every company I've worked with previously was pretty secure/stable

3-4 calls A DAY!? Sounds like Heaven to me π

3-4 calls A DAY!? Sounds like Heaven to me π yeah, he said sometimes there's more but that's was what he was averaging. I actually interviewed for a spot a few weeks ago and didn't get it (not sure why) and during that interview the manager said they get hundreds of calls a week, but my friend isn't a liar (as far as I know) and he and I would have the same job title. They emailed me a couple days ago saying they had another spot open and asked if I was still interested. I'll have a few more questions this go around. Be great if it really was 3-4 calls a day and I could keep my current job too, but they said there was a two week training, can't take that off...I really need my future self to build a time machine so they can tell me if this is a bad idea :\ Only negative of my current job is filling my truck up (18 gallons) every two days and the LOOOOOONG drive to work...all this driving is starting to wear on me (past jobs included) and I really don't want to have to move that far away from my family which I would if I stayed at my current job.

As long as outset is a secure company - bail.

As long as outset is a secure company - bail. well, that's the rub
Davita is kicking ass, outset and fresenius seem to be fairing similarly though fresenius is valued higher, that's just 5 year since outset has only been around since 2003 but I can only see back to like 2020, here are the max's; doesn't look so even then :\ they kinda look to be steadily declining...oh geez

yeah even if they pay me a lot higher than I currently make...how long will that last...2 years maybe...I seem to change jobs every two years anyway. But might be better to stay where I am, I do mostly dialysis at 5 clinics but I do also do general biomed at one of them as well, if I do leave here and say go to one of the two larger cities near me I don't really know if phone tech support will secure a job, but having continued dialysis and general biomed work would. Plus my current job gives a pension after 5 years, been here 2 years so far, a pension in a non-union job is unheard of nowadays...not that I honestly believe I'll ever be able to retire :\ only 40 but I'm pretty sure I'll have to work till I absolutely cannot. but I'm sure a day will come when I have no choice but to stop working (maybe 70's) so that would be a little help the longer I stay where I am (more years I think equals better pension). Or if I do go for a job in dallas or tyler my current job would probably secure better pay than a phone job. Be cool if I could work both the phone job and my current one...having a toilet made of gold would be cool too...probably equally as likely I really need a time machine...or need my future self to have one

My Acute manager is really pushing for the tablos too, we have 6 2008t still newish (9-10k hours) and she is hell bent on the tablo, only benefit I see is a smaller footprint because we can get rid of our portable RO system. The price seems very high 30-40k each! they are planning on a demo in the next few weeks anyone have any questions I can stump them with?: )

I think brauns are like $15-18k or something? and centurion ro's similarly priced...we just bought a couple of each of those but I don't do accounting so not really sure how much they were. I believe the tablos are dialysis machine and ro all in one unit so kinda makes sense.

When we had our most recent Tablo demo, we were told $40K each PLUS you had to purchase an annual maintenance plan for an additional $4K/year.

The sad part is we don't even need new machines, she just wants them because the RO is built in and is easier for nurses to push THATS IT. if that's the case I will push machines for 40k a year.

There sales team are very aggressive and promising these doctors of same results as the fresenius can deliver. my only gripe is the cost to upkeep these machines. you have to stay in contract with them to get the machines PM'd yearly. next is the filters that cost a lot without the contract it cost more. after 2 years of having the machine issues after issues. again without the contract the parts are expensive. They started with real engineers to work on there machines but now they realize they need dialysis biomeds with real experience with dilaysis not just the machines.
