Honestly, in 15+ years I've never needed to.

I have had a couple that had enough sediment build up from wipes, between the screen and the frame, it would not calibrate and was difficult to select on screen. I could see a build up of dried white substance down between the screen and fame. I had two separate the frame and the screen and clean. After that I was able to calibrate and selected accurately.

The buildup is from using too strong of bleach and not wiping the bleach off...which you aren't supposed to use bleach on the screen anyway...at least not on bbrauns. I can't remember if fresenius says to never bleach the screen or to wipe the screen clean after wiping it with bleach. I've found, if you can catch it before it builds up, on fresenius, bbrauns, prismaflex/max, alcohol wipes (use gloves if you use caviwipes for your own safety) can clean most of that off, but will take a few applications. but if it's been allowed to build up even a scraper won't get it off, I tried a metal putty "knife" and a flat razor, might have if I was more patient. if it was bad enough I just had the facility pay for a new screen and told the manager why...they messed it up so they can pay for it, I'm not wasting a day scraping off a screen because they won't listen to biomed.

We did have the problem of bleach "fogging" the screens until we switched to Oxivir wipes. Within a couple of weeks the screens looked brand new. Any of the hydrogen peroxide based wipes would probably work as well. We've since switched to McKesson germicidal wipes that are alcohol based and don't have a problem.

I've replaced a ton of touchscreens and FPB due to bleach burn and bleach seepage. It had gotten so bad that one day 3 machines became unusable that day and there were no backups for about a month because the touchscreens went on backorder. Needless to say the manager of clinical services had to do a presentation on how to wipe the screens and how to mix the bleach solution lol but a lot of them went to using alcohol on the screens.
