There are some staff that are under the impression that you can run a Dialog+ in sequential therapy when you do not have access to a treated water source...or if something happens to your portable water source you can finish the treatment in sequential therapy.
This sounds insane to me but is this accurate? How would the machine discharge fluid removed from the patient without the assistance of water?
I couldn't find anything in the Dialog+ IFU that explicitly states yes or no on this, and I don't know if that's because the answer should be obvious (one way or the other) to anyone performing treatments.

At the very least, the machine would need water to test and be primed. While there would be some convective transport of toxins, it wouldn't be substantial. You would also not be able to regulate/normalize the patient's electrolytes and potentially take their K and/or Ca levels dangerously low.

Thank you. A situation where I have personally witnessed this was a bedside treatment where the water source in the room lost pressure and they were attempting to finish out the treatment with sequential therapy.
I don't know enough to comment on the patient safety risk.

Pure Sequential means fluid removal without dialysate, so YES, you would need water to facilitate carrying the material to drain. Note 1: Prior to start, the machine will be made to go into conductivity and once therapy begins, both the acid and bicarb pumps will stop. Only the flow pumps will continue to run. Hence, water is required. Note 2: In alternating HD and Sequential (the time interval is divided into 10 equal segments), The machine will prepare for normal conductivity and maintain that conductivity during the entire treatment. Therefore, when it is time to switch from Sequential to HD, there is no delay because the machine has maintained its conductivity. During Sequential, VDE is closed, so water flow is thru VBP.
