So our company has decided that PCT's and AA will be handling bicarb disinfects and ordering of supplies respectively. While I like the idea of a lighter work load... the idea of someone handling my system other than a trained Biomed or myself sends shivers down my spine. I'm feel like I'm an excellent trainer, so I'm not as concerned on training others to do these tasks. It's just.. letting go. So.. for the others that work for the big F and D... how did you handle these changes? Do the PCT's do a decent job on disinfects? Have you noticed any issues with Colony counts with the bicarb return? I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I either bow down to corporate or fight tooth and nail..

I worked for hospital-owned dialysis units. As the hospital desperately tried to stay competitive, they reduced the number of machine technicians. The hospital never used the term "biomeds". Letting go was not an option. It was they only way to maintain my sanity.
Because we ran four shifts of patients, bicarb disinfection was performed on Sunday. Only PCTs who wanted to come in on Sundays had to disinfect. It worked out well. If every PCT had to disinfect, it might have worked out differently.
