I don't know what it is, but one of my clinics has open air funnel shaped floor drains that build up that yellow fatty dialysis waste goop at an incredibly fast rate. I'm currently deep cleaning these things twice a month with the RPC specialized drain cleaner plus pressurized sprayer but it's still not enough. The entire funnel gets stacked up with a thick layer of goop until eventually it blocks the entire funnel hole, which has a cross hatch at the bottom, and winds up flooding the floor and then either myself or the PCT is out there hand scooping goop out of the funnel and mopping up the floor.
This happened again recently and now I'm being asked to do this deep cleaning on a weekly basis, which is quite annoying based on the workload I already have. The PCTs outright refuse to add any drain maintenance to their closing routine, so that's not an option for me.
I wanted to float an idea and see if it sounds crazy: the black plastic funnels are quite old (this is an old building) and the inside surface is quite scratched and dulled compared to the shiny surface you see on new abs plastic. Buying new funnels has been shot down by the company, but what if I cleaned all the funnels and spray painted them with either high gloss black or high gloss clear spray paint? Do you think this could work in making a smooth surface that the goop will stop sticking to?
If you have any other tips or suggestions I'm eager to learn, I have only been doing this job for about a year

You could try one and see if it helps. Has anybody done a cost comparison of maintaining the old drains versus replacing the old funnels to see it the problem goes away?

There is a company called Bryson Industries that make an automated drain cleaning system. It dispenses drain cleaner at programed intervals. I have been looking into getting it for one of my clinics but haven't come across anyone that has tried it. Maybe it would work for you.

I usually do drain cleaning after monthly end to end disinfection. I run HD machines into pre rinse heat disinfect. This allows hot water down the drains to help soften up the biofilm goop. Then when thats done, I use RPC foaming drain cleaner for all wall boxes, p traps and floor drains. Your situation sounds really bad. We have a local handy man that offers jet blasting drains. Maybe find a plumber or local handyman that would be able to do it. Then just monthly maintenance with the RPC foaming drain cleaner. My facility also does not have the drain odor. Hope this helps.
