I have a Braun machine with a message reading dci not active. New to the bbraun. Not sure what that means

It means that the machine isn't connected to your clinics EMR.

For us, if it's just one machine, this issue is caused by either the DCI cable or the ethernet cable that goes from the DCI cable to the RJ45 jack on the wall. The machines get moved and the connectors get pulled a little too hard, breaking the wires. Rarely is it actually the machine, but I have seen times when we had to reboot a machine to get it to work. Again rarely, you may have to reboot the computer you have the DDI software on. My two cents.

Having the same issue. DCI link stopped working from one day to the next. Checked all connections. Swapped ethernet and DCI link cables. Tried disabling and reenabling DCI in TSM. The Tangent (PC) communicates with our network just fine, but there's just no communication between the machine and the PC. There isn't much to it, so I'm kid of stumped. Paper doesn't go offline, just sayin'. Any additional guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If you move the machine to another station, is it still DCI Not Active? If so, in my opinion, it has to be the motherboard in the machine. Assuming you have replaced all cabling including the internal cable from the motherboard to the back door.

We used to have problems with a switch dropping a port from time to time. Rebooting the switch would fix it.

qman, Yes, when moved to a different station, the machine still displays DCI not active.
Chuck, I'll look into that. Thank you.

If the external cable was tested on a known working machine, then the problem could either be hardware or software (programming). Hardware includes the motherboard or the internal cable. The motherboard Comm port can be checked with a loop back tester and the test screen in TSM to insure the RS-232 chips are working correctly. The internal can be replaced mor quickly then testing it.
The software programming is dependent on the HOST EMR. Not every system requires the machine to have a unique Dianet address. But if you system does use it, check to make sure each machine hasn a unique number. Many forget that the Dianet address is part of the system configuration and will be copied to another machine if an FSU is used.
