I am getting continuously elevated LAL's, greater than 1.0, on my monthly samples for one of my MilleniumHX. The membrane is less than a year old and has the new software. RO has been cleaned with Hi and Low pH cleaners, as well as Minncare disinfection, in addition to normal heat disinfect. The sample port has been replaced as a precaution and the RO has been rinsed thoroughly after each disinfection. Any recommendations?

Sorry for late response as been on the road and work stuff..
Maybe check if
1) the conductivity and rejection rate ( > 90 % ) first
2) the sample bottle is not contaminated ( the cap not loose )
3) some wiping / cleaning agent may caused false reading , discard first syringe during water testing and take the water sample from the second syringe onward
4) maybe try taking water sampling from the permeate Y COUPLING instead of the sample port
Hopefully this help .

Thats for the response.
1. Conductivity and rejection rate are good, 98% 2. We have repeated samples 5 times, all with good CFU's but high LAL counts. 3. Our procedure is to wipe sample port first with alcohol prep, pull 30cc syringe full and discard, then pull a second 30cc syringe full and utilize as our sample. 4. We haven't tried getting the sample from the Y-Coupling but did replace the sample port due to the thought of it being the source of the issue.
In talks with MarCor, or Evoqua, the think its the membrane again, even though it is less than a year old. Will keep you all posted with results.

Not familiar with those units, but have done quite a few redraws for elevated readings...
I've told our guys that high colonies calls for extra disinfection, but for high LAL (since you can't kill 'dead bugs')...rinse the ever-loving crap out of it. We do clean-catch so we just let it flush for 20 mins to an hour before taking the next sample.
Of course, there's no accounting for contaminated cups, tubes or temp control.

Ended up needing membranes again. Did they have an explanation as to what would cause the membranes to fail in that manner?
