Evening all I was wondering if you guys would weigh in on rebuilding Fresenius valves and the reliability afterwards vs purchasing new ones every time ? Thanks in Advance

Valves are $45-50. IMO, small price to pay for peace of mind knowing it's good.

i will always take apart suspect valves most of the time the valve guide has unscrewed from the plunger so when the valve is opened the flow is restricted i will check out the noid to insure it is between 50 and 80 ohms when the soloniod goes bad it is usually OL or 0 i have never seen a valve body go bad at least not with the new type valves

Appreciate you guys commenting, I have seen quite a few of the caps swollen on my valves. Would you mind sharing where you find valves for $40? Are they a refurbishing company? We’ve had an unsuccessful fight here at my hospital getting them to purchase refurbish parts. Thanks

Buy brand new FMC valves and replace them. I don't recommend buying "rebuilt" H&S or GIA valves either. Once they are opened to check for issues, those valves are compromised.

from my experience a used valve, rebuilt valve does not last a long as a new valve. I started building them all when one would fail now I seem to have valve issues because the plugger flared out/ stuck in valve head after about 2 years. If you want to rebuild valves every 2 years I say go for it. $11 dollar rebuild kit versus $48 valve.

I’m a little confused, I’m a CBET and been in Biomed for a while but just started taking on dialysis , but aren’t we rebuilding the membrane in the balance chamber? Or are you guys buying those new instead of rebuilding them? I would think if you replace a membrane in the BC the valve rebuild kit would make sense. Like I say I’m not being a smart ass I’ve only been doing the dialysis for a year now. We were leasing the machines from Fresenius prior to that and had a service contract. Thanks

Thanks Me, myself I replace the membrane. Others in the is same group will buy a whole new balance chamber and throw the old one out, valves and all. Why? The person always had issues after because of rushing through the membrane replacement. Literally tried doing it in 5 minutes, never paid attention to how they took things apart and never labeled stuff. Then there are some people who like to flex and show off spending a companies money. For this part, its hundreds of dollars for new vs a couple for the membrane. As far as rebuilding valves, i thought about doing it, but have no way of knowing if its the plunger or solenoid part that is not functioning properly. I cant see rebuilding an item just for it to continue to not work, so i replace the whole valve.

I've never had a problem with rebuilding valves. In my experience anyway 99% of the time if a valve fails it's because the rubber seal has swelled and falls off the plunger. Just recently had V43 on top of the air separator fail (by fail again I mean it wouldn't open because the seal fell off and covered the opening restricting flow). In this instance the seal swelled to twice the original size. I use a rebuild kit from SVS which has a new seal, spring and 2 o-rings. I always check the ohms first. I've had this happen with V24, V29 and V30 quite often.

how long have you been rebuilding valves and how long do they last before you start seeing issues?
