first time performing a pm on a bluestar and notice the acid & bicarb pump springs have a pin at the end is this for anything specific? or more of a guide when putting the pumps back together?

the new springs ook ike the titanium one they came out with back in the 90s they said they lasted over a year but where pulled i guess they developed memory

All I know is they are extended life components. I have updated about 25 of my 2008t to blue stars now and I've had maybe 2 in as many years break or air lock as opposed my all of my non bluestars which consistently shatter and/or lock up.

It helps with preventing air locks. Like Neon said, the metal pins on the end of the spring prevent the pumps from being air locked. When the pump takes in acid/bicarb, the springs vibrate and can become stuck on the side of the blue/white intake dimples. The pins keep this from happening, and guide the springs back into place so they seal properly. Not sure why they are only used in extended life components, however.
