Sounds like we may be using this feature at some point sooner than later. We have blue star bibag machines and use the bibag.
I know and understand how the conductivity cell works but in everything I see it says "Independent Conductivity and pH Self-Test removes the need for an external meter and supplies to check conductivity by using the post-dialyzer conductivity cell as the independent conductivity check and checking pH when a bibag disposable is used."
To my knowledge there is no equipment on the machine that can check pH. I know of no settings and can't find any parts about this. Anyone know anything about this?

I personally don't agree with the Fresenius interpretation of "Independent Conductivity". To me, "Independent" is totally separate from the machine, not just another piece of it. Keep in mind that the independent check of conductivity is by manufacturer recommendation and not an AAMI or CMS regulation. Now that said, I don't feel that checking conductivity with an independent device is necessary. Braun obviously feels the same way and clearly states it's not necessary in their IFU's. Has anyone ever seen a machine conductivity and a Phoenix/Myron L meter not agree and it turn out that the machine was wrong?
Now checking pH with an independent method IS required by AAMI and CMS and I don't see how they could get around that.

Also, Conductivity is one thing but pH meters/sensors always have calibration issues. Any pH meter/sensor will need to be verified on a semi regular basis to ensure accuracy. How would that work? I’m thinking the pH is not verified and wording is just poor.
