We are looking into the option of mixing dry acid (NOT bicarb) and have some questions.
1. Who does the mixing? Biomed, clinical, or someone else?
------some clinics I've worked at when they started biomed did it, but they found that wasn't practical so now the techs do it and the nurse checks off the specific gravity
2. Is your mixer Fresenius, Rockwell, or someone else?
------ours was granuflo
3. Approximate footprint of your mixer?
----I believe it was 132 gallons (500 Liters). I'd say the base was square and maybe 5 feet long, 2-3 feet wide??? oh don't quote me. it's been a while, it was big though. Took 5 of those 50 pound boxes of dry acid to make 132 gallons.
4. Do you have a direct feed or in-direct feed water system?
------They had direct feed, only the acutes using the portables used gallon jugs
5. How many gallons is a batch?
-----granuflo had a 132 and 99 gallon mixers, we used the 132
6. How long does it take to fill the mixer?
------oh geez a long time, but we always put a throttle on the water line because it stole from the loop so it ran slow on purpose so the treatments wouldn't be disturbed. Our mixer had automatic fill, you hit the fill button and walk away, when it got to a certain amount then it would stop
7. How long does it take from start to finish?
------very long, but once it was filled initially you go through the steps pretty quick, only after the final mix does it top itself off...i'd say at least 45 min after initial fill maybe
8. How do you test/validate proper mixing?
------specific gravity verified by the nurse
9. Does the mixer require disinfection or just rinsing?
------rinsing after use, as well as wiping down the outside (dry acid powder is FINE...do not breath it in either. once a month biomed bleached it and checked using residual strips on the drain)
10. If disinfection is required, what chemical is used?
-----bleach, again, only biomed did this, pct's just rinsed after use
