What are some of you doing to minimize bed bugs exposure in your facilities? It boggles my mind that we have patients with bed bugs and they simply don't care. They also make zero effort to eradicate them at home.

Pull chair after each of those patients, take it out to parking lot and soak with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Puke from all the dried blood and guts still up in all the nooks and crannies, give the chair back
to minimize they try and use chair covers but thats only hiding the issue

It can be very difficult to get rid of bed bugs in your home.

we've had ****roaches (I'm not editing that it makes me chuckle it's getting asterisked) crawl out of patients bags SEVERAL times, can't think of any bed bug issues...kinda shocking now that I think about it
oh yeah, there will be blood. when I replaced all the armrests at one clinic to get them off you have to REALLY lean the back all the way back...SO MUCH dried blood...not as much as was INSIDE the armrests though...padding is supposed to be yellow...it was ALL red 0_o

We use Steri-Fab- Spray chair down before patient comes- it dries quick-we also use drape sheets on the chairs(17.00) a case of 50 and when the patient leaves we spray it again then put aside because we have a spare one- the bugs stay on the patient they dont go anywhere else, also if the patient is in a nursing home or paying rent- the social worker start making calls and makes them take care of it

I like your idea of spraying the chair before. We will start doing that. We have two pts (brother/sister) that live together and they have them bad. We actually paid to have their small house sprayed thinking it would help minimize our exposure and maybe, just maybe, they would be motivated to help eliminate the issue. After almost a year of this, they refused to let the exterminator in their house anymore. Go figure. Thanks for the idea.

A few of our clinics use a steamer, carefully avoiding electrical connections. Others use a 99% alcohol in spray bottles.
