So a tech in the area is having function board issues and needs a new one (backorder limbo) but the only ones in our area are 2.65/2.72. With the big update push to 2.74 all the machines have been updated in our area. Does that make all these sub 2.74 boards obsolete and/or garbage?
If one was thinking during this big push and rush for the update, updating these spare boards would of been a good idea.

is this in anticipation of the passwordless project?

Yes it is. Most of the FMC in MN has the passwordless devices.
When you get them, some DPC will think its the best thing thats ever happened and others wont care for it. With all the anticipation and push for it, the end product was really underwhelming.

so I had 2 ver 1 boards, and basically, to get them to update I had to call my regional it guy and we reimaged them to the default ( not the chairside factory reset, but an actual new os install) then just left it pulled in overnight and restarted it, and it applied the update. a quick way to just see if your version is already supported is to clock *click*on the helpdesk icon on the machine and see if passwordless is enabled.

But to answer your question about being obsolete, I know it's the intention down the line to switch all machines to bi-bag, so I think it's a "keep it going till we get there" kind of thing as far as corp is concerned. that's just my opinion.

With the 2.74 Function board push also came with an update to the Actuator and UIMICS board. In school they told me "The function board is the mother in-law to all the others...constantly in their business". ALWAYS UPDATE THE FUNCTION BOARD FIRST. So now everything else has been updated and the function board is now out of date at 2.72.
We have a machine where if i swap the function board with another machine it works. With a new board thats running 2.65 it gets to EEPROM error before you can throw it in to service mode. That machine is now running with a 2.74 board we found in the area. But all machines in the area are updated. So updating the old 2.65/2.72 boards by the usb in the machine will not work.
Do I just toss it?

ok first did you swap your old eprom with the function board you intend to update ,2nd is the dot on eprom in upper left corner ,3rd we all updated 2.72 boards to get the 2.74 so the eprom error has to be from either a bad eprom or not installed correctly.
