Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has experienced HD machines spitting fluids out the back after the machine passes its self tests. I have noticed it happened a lot at my clinics that had pressurized Acid and Bicarb systems. One of my clinics was gravity feed and had no issues but when we switched over now it happens a lot. I tell the staff to stop it just turn the Acid and Bicarb off at the wall and it will stop it. But we know they never notice until there is already a puddle. When this happens the condo on the screen goes to 17 and on debug screen 0 the first condo cell is up in the 30’s. I’ve tried to explain this to the staff and to my boss and they all think it’s a machine issue but it happens on all the machines at different stations at different times of the day. My thinking is there is so much pressure coming out of the wall it’s pushing passes the springs in the pumps and fills up the tank and has no where else to go but out the back. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue as well and if so what did you do to resolve this issue. My plan is to start adjusting the pressure inside the wall box and hopefully that will stop it. Thank You for any suggestions or resolutions.

Have you checked the pressure in the concentrate loop? Does each box have regulators for whatever acid concentrates you use and for bicarb? I suggest checking the pressure. I only know gravity fed systems, so maybe someone else can recommend the ideal pressure range. Assuming the pressure is high, I would turn down the pressure in a few wall boxes and see if it solves your problems.

Yes had this issue. Check your flow and deareation pump pressures. We ended up putting in new motors and this solved the problem

Check your valve box pressures. I had same issue and found my 3K loop had been bumped up to 25psi, normally its at 10 psi. That iss enough pressure to override station regulators. My loops have a pressure regulator valve right after the pumps. The valves are also right next to where staff transfer from mixer to tank and I believe they may have bumped valve. Ended up fixing some intermittent conductivity issues as well. They hardly ever use 3K. Told staff for now on when they pull a machine for conductivity issues to list station# and bath that was causing issue.
When its spitting out back during heat its generally the Heat Exchange. The Heat Exchanger system leak test conducted during bleach disinfects should catch these before they start spitting.

I have also had this issue. It happens when the dialysate flow on the machine is turned off. The condo will skyrocket and the machine will spit fluid out the back. The easiest fix for staff is to get the dialysate flow going again. I've found that if you turn the flow off for about 5 seconds on the dialysate screen and then turn it back on again you will hear the "click" of the flow going back on. Ultimately this is caused by the acid pressure being too high and forcing the acid spring open allowing fluid to flow into the machine when it shouldn't. I would find out what station/stations this is happening at and try to turn the flow lower on those stations. Hopefully you have a flow regulator attached to each port that allows you to turn it down. You can also try to turn the flow down if you have a valve that controls the flow also. The machine only needs 2 psi worth of pressure to work properly. Should look like the acid is dribbling out of each port.
