Good afternoon all,
I work for a 3rd party company and we are looking into supporting the B-Braun units. My experience has always been working on the Fresenius units and I feel like they have been very reliable when PROPERLY maintained.
I am hoping to get some feed back on the operational up time for the B-Braun units.

Prior to getting Braun machines about 15 years ago we had 125 +/- machines that were about an even mix of Fresenius and Baxter/Althin machines. These machines kept myself and 5 full time techs very busy. Now, we have 163 Braun machines and have no trouble covering them with 2 full time techs and me helping out IF needed when one of them is on vacation. I think this speaks volumes about reliability not to mention the cost savings of not needing so many techs. As a side note....The Braun machines were phased in over about 5 years and no one lost their jobs, as a tech left their position just wasn't filled.
Your techs will hate them until they get used to them. Not because they are difficult, they're just different from what they're used to. Braun also uses a lot of abbreviations that are based on German which takes getting used to. As an example....VVBE would be the Inlet Valve on a Fresenius machine.

I agree with what Chuck has stated. I have worked on Fresenius machines since the C came out. I take care of 12 acute facilities, and a couple years ago we started changing over to the Braun machine and I hated working on them. It wasn't that they were bad machines, it was because I had to relearn and get use to their verbiage and all that came with it, so that was on me.
As far as technical support goes for me, if you're lucky enough to get Brian, your golden. Not long ago I had an issue with a machine and a tech who I won't name was a complete ignorant piece of you know what because I questioned him. He had me running in circles for almost 3 weeks before one day I was lucky enough to get Brian who diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes. The guy should have been fired, but nothing was ever done. They don't have a troubleshooting book like Fresenius which is the only thing I think Fresenius does better, but with time you figure out how to use what they offer and get the job done.
The machines aren't without issue, but all things considered they are far better than Fresenius.

Thank you for responding! Seeing as how the general consensus is that these units are reasonably reliable I think we will make the offer and support them.
Thank you again for responding!

I was thinking back on when we hired an acute dialysis manager from Louisiana to work in the San Francisco Bay Area. He loved B Braun equipment, and he was very familiar with it. Nobody was familiar with it here. There is somewhat of a bias in that people want to stay with the equipment they are familiar with. He was voted down.
